Terms of Use
Last updated: August 30, 2026
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of AMAReferenceGenerator.com, including the citation generator, reference-management features, guides and related website content.
By using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
1. What the Site provides
AMAReferenceGenerator.com provides an independent citation-generation utility and educational information about AMA citation style.
Features may include source lookup from DOI, PMID, PubMed URL, ISBN, webpage URL or title; metadata review; PDF/BibTeX import; manual entry; formatted references; superscript in-text numbers; numbered reference lists; duplicate detection; and supported export options.
2. Independent service
AMAReferenceGenerator.com is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the American Medical Association.
Use of the term “AMA” on this Site refers to the citation style and the AMA Manual of Style. Nothing on the Site should be understood as representing the American Medical Association.
3. Citation accuracy is not guaranteed
The Site is designed to assist with citation work, but no automated citation generator can guarantee that every reference is correct.
Possible sources of error include:
- missing or incorrect external metadata;
- incorrect source-type detection;
- book-edition mismatches;
- webpage metadata ambiguity;
- journal-abbreviation differences;
- ahead-of-print records that later change;
- software bugs; and
- publication-specific house-style requirements.
You are responsible for reviewing the final citation against the source and the requirements of your instructor, university, journal, publisher or other recipient.
4. Academic responsibility
The Site does not replace your responsibility to cite sources accurately, follow academic-integrity rules or comply with the policies of your institution or publisher.
Do not use the generator to fabricate sources, misrepresent research you did not consult or disguise plagiarism.
5. No medical, legal or professional advice
The Site provides citation and publishing-related information. It does not provide medical diagnosis, treatment advice, legal advice or professional publishing representation.
References to medical publications, PubMed or health-science research do not turn the Site into a healthcare service.
6. External metadata and third-party services
The generator may rely on third-party services such as Crossref, NCBI/PubMed and Google Books to retrieve public bibliographic metadata. Those services can change, become unavailable, rate-limit requests or return incomplete information.
We do not control third-party databases and are not responsible for the accuracy or continued availability of their records.
7. Local reference-list storage
The current generator may store your working reference list in browser-local storage. You are responsible for exporting or copying important work.
We are not responsible for loss of locally stored data caused by clearing browser storage, private browsing, browser changes, device changes, software updates or other local conditions.
8. PDFs, BibTeX and user-submitted material
You must have the right to use any file or information you provide to the Site. Do not submit confidential patient records, protected health information, passwords, trade secrets, illegally obtained material or other sensitive information that is unnecessary for citation generation.
PDF import is intended to help identify bibliographic information, not to provide secure document storage or confidential document analysis.
9. Acceptable use
You may not use the Site to:
- interfere with or overload the Site or its external data providers;
- bypass technical restrictions or security controls;
- attempt unauthorized access to the WordPress installation, server or other users’ systems;
- upload or transmit malware;
- automate requests at a volume that disrupts the service or violates third-party API terms;
- misrepresent the Site as an official American Medical Association product; or
- use the service for unlawful activity.
10. Intellectual property
The Site’s original code, design, editorial content, organization and branding are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws except where content is identified as belonging to third parties or is used under another license.
Third-party names, trademarks, citation manuals, database names and documentation remain the property of their respective owners.
These Terms do not grant you ownership of AMAReferenceGenerator.com or third-party intellectual property.
11. Use of generated citations
You may copy and use citations generated for your own academic, research, professional or personal purposes, subject to any rights or restrictions that apply to the underlying source data or publication.
The bibliographic facts in a citation may originate from external metadata providers. You remain responsible for ensuring the resulting reference is accurate and appropriate for your use.
12. Availability and changes
We may update, modify, suspend or discontinue features at any time. This can include changing metadata providers, citation logic, supported source types, export formats or user-interface behavior.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability.
13. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Site and its content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties that every citation, metadata record, guide, link or feature will be complete, current, accurate or suitable for a particular submission.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, AMAReferenceGenerator.com and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from reliance on generated citations, metadata errors, service interruption, loss of locally stored reference lists or use of third-party services.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
15. Your responsibility for misuse
Where permitted by law, you are responsible for claims or losses resulting from your unlawful misuse of the Site, violation of these Terms or infringement of third-party rights.
16. External links
The Site links to official manuals, PubMed/NCBI, Crossref, publishers and other third-party resources. Links are provided for convenience and research. We do not control those websites or their content.
17. Privacy
Our handling of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms when the service, legal requirements or business model changes. The “Last updated” date identifies the current version.
19. Applicable law
Mandatory consumer and data-protection rights that apply to you are not waived by these Terms. The specific governing-law and jurisdiction clause should be completed once the Site’s formal legal operator and business location are confirmed.
20. Contact
Questions about these Terms can be sent to contact@amareferencegenerator.com.
